Mardi Gras 2007

Well my friends Lachlan and Waz have flown back to Melbourne, so my Mardi Gras is officially over for the year.

Friday the boys arrived and came to my house as they couldn't check into their hotel until 2pm. After a couple of drinks I took them to their hotel where they checked in and then came back to my house. We then headed to Oxford Street for the start of Mardi Gras Madness and I got home at about 2.30 am Saturday morning.

At about 10am the girls downstairs buzzed to say it was time to go to yum cha in chinatown for breakfast. That complete I can home and relaxed until 2:30 when it was time to go and help set up the VIP viewing area of the parade on Taylor Square. Finally finishing up there at around 11pm it was home again for a quick shower and change of clothes before heading to the dance party, gettiing there at about 12.45. I finally managed to find the boys at about 2.30 and had a fantastic time with them and their friends. I must add at this point that it was the first time ever I have been seen in public with my shirt off - one of the boys unbuttoned it and then removed it completely while we were dancing - oh my! We ended up leaving the party at about 7.30am then it was home for me and back to the hotel for the boys.

By about midday Sunday the boys were showered, changed and back at my house ready to head back to Oxford street. Home again a little after midnight for an actual sleep (shock horror).

Up again at about 9am Monday and a phone call from the boys saying they were coming over & we would do brunch as they needed to check out of their hotel. I managed to drink a cup of coffee, eat a slice of toast and push the scrambled eggs to the side of the plate. We then slothed at my house for a few hours before hitting the bars again a little after 2pm.

Dinner was at Betty's Soup Kitchen where I had half a beef and veg pie and some salad. Then back home with the boys for them to collect their bags and then head back to the airport for their flight home.

More photos from my camera phone can be found here...

As for my earlier post about maybe finding a boyfriend at Mardi Gras, well that didn't happen. In fact the only snog I got was from one of Lachlan and Waz's friends as a sympathy snog! :(

Thankfully I have the rest of the week off to recover before heading back to work!

The Pub With One Beer

The Pub With One Beer is the latest Australian production from The LifeStyle Channel where I work. It's going on-air in March...

Yesterday afternoon I went to China Doll in Woolloomooloo for work lunch/drinks.

Perusing the cocktail list, I discovered the "Rose petal & lemongrass martini" which is described as "rose petal vodka & fresh lychees laced with green limes & lemongrass". It's served in a traditional martini glass with a long piece of lemongrass as decoration. Mr Z, you have to make this, it's divine!

Afterwards we moved to the Tilbury Hotel via a skanky pub we passed on the way (see picture).

It was here that this blog came up in conversation along with the fact that I haven't mentioned my boyfriend for a while. The reason for not mentioning him is that we have broken up.

Yes, that means I'm single for Mardi Gras.

After staggering home at 2am this morning from the Shift where I ended up with one of the boys from the work drinks, I had to be at the volunteers brifing day at 10am as I will be working in the VIP area for the parade on March 3rd, then a quick trip home to change and off to the party along with about 16,000 other queers. Maybe one of them will be my new boyfriend!

So there we have it, a neat little wrap-up of being single, finding a delicious cocktail, and mardi gras.
